VAT and Sales Tax Calculator
Add tax to a net price or pull it back out of a gross one. Both at once.
Method
How it works
The same amount is evaluated in two ways. When treated as net, tax is added to produce a gross price; when treated as gross, the tax-inclusive amount is divided by one plus the rate to recover its net portion.
Tax already included in a gross price is not the same as simply multiplying the gross amount by the tax rate. The calculator uses the entered rate only and does not determine jurisdiction-specific tax treatment.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT or sales tax to a net price?
Treat the entered amount as net; the calculator multiplies it by the tax rate and adds that tax.
How do I remove VAT from a tax-inclusive price?
Treat the amount as gross; net price is gross divided by one plus the tax rate as a decimal.
Why is tax inside a gross price smaller than gross price times the rate?
Because the tax rate applies to the net base, not to the already tax-inclusive total.
