How much does a seller keep after percentage and fixed marketplace fees?

Marketplace deductions often combine a percentage of the sale with a fixed charge. Separating those components shows why low-priced orders can face a higher effective fee rate.

Combining percentage and fixed selling costs

Marketplace commission and percentage payment processing are calculated from sale price. The fixed payment fee is added, and all fees are deducted to produce the platform payout.

Shipping paid by the seller and item cost are then deducted from payout to calculate net profit. The margin uses sale price as its base, while return on item cost uses the item cost base.

What remains from one marketplace order

The default sale applies the configured percentage fee and fixed fee, then subtracts both from the selling price to calculate seller proceeds.

Net profit per sale$21.96
Marketplace payout$48.96
Total fees$11.04
Margin on sale price36.6%

Why low prices raise the effective fee rate

Net proceeds are the amount left before any costs not entered. Effective fee percentage compares total marketplace deductions with the sale value.

Sale value less two fee components

Commission = Sale price × Commission% ÷ 100Payment fee = Sale price × Payment% ÷ 100 + Fixed feePayout = Sale price − Commission − Payment feeNet profit = Payout − Shipping − Item cost

Platform charges outside the entered fee

Payment processing, listing fees, advertising, shipping and tax may be charged separately. Omitting them can overstate what the seller keeps.

  • The percentage fee applies to the sale base defined by the calculator.
  • The fixed fee is charged once per transaction.
  • Refunds, tax, shipping and other platform programmes are excluded.
